SANDWICH HARBOUR TOUR

Sandwich Harbour – part of the Namib Naukluft Park – is a place many have heard of but very few have ever visited. Giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes, just waiting to be discovered! Tours start every morning at the Walvis Bay Lagoon to see masses of flamingos, we proceed to the Kuiseb river delta, a dry riverbed where the odd springbok may be seen.

Beautiful dunes have to be crossed to get to Sandwich Harbour. One of Southern Africa’s richest and unique wetlands.  Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, potable water seeping from the underground aquifer sustains the freshwater vegetation at the base of the dunes.

We have lots of time to stop along the way for photography. When it becomes time to enjoy something to eat, your guide simply finds a suitable place to stop and serve a selection of savoury and sweet snacks, sparkling wine, oysters and drinks.  We usually do this on top of a high dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, or on the beach.

DOLPIN AND SEAL CATAMARAN CRUISE

Look for dolphins, seals, pelicans and other marine life on this catamaran cruise from Walvis Bay. As you sail, you will be able to see the shipwreck, lighthouse, oyster platforms and different bird species found in the bay too.

As the catamaran moves alongside the oyster platforms, your guide will share more information with you about locally cultivated Walvis Bay oysters. Included in the tour is the tasting of these delicacies. The journey proceeds to the Pelican Point to get a closer look at the lighthouse.

As you sail, look out for the playful dolphins and Cape fur seals that call the bay home. Look out for sightings of the mola mola (sunfish) and leatherback turtles. In season (July through November), keep your eyes peeled for whales, and with some extra luck, you might see the mighty killer whales (orcas) too!
